Elms Student Village, Queens University Belfast

RPP were engaged as lead consultants for the planning, design and project management of the redevelopment of the Queen’s Elms Halls of Residence.

This scheme comprises 29 new pavilion blocks (each of 33 ensuite units) and involved the demolition of four ten-storey tower blocks to make way for the series of attractive new low-rise residences, complete with social hub building in the centre. The entire ‘village’ is set within a landscaped master plan.

Pedestrianised ‘streets’ integrate the individual residential blocks, different phases being identified through the use of different, yet complimentary, materials. The scheme makes allowance for disabled, individual and family living, with the option of using the facilities outside term time as a conference venue.
