Holy Cross College, Strabane

In September 2004, RPP Architects in association with HLM, were selected as the preferred designers of a new £25m amalgamated school at Holy Cross College, Strabane.

Designing a new school is more than simply creating a building as an end in itself. The buildings we create should motivate and inspire pupils and staff alike and integrate the school into the community.

The architectural vocabulary at Holy Cross is contemporary, making use of traditional, natural materials in a modern, creative and innovative way. Sustainability has been a core objective in the design philosophy; naturally ventilated classrooms with maximum use of natural daylight create a school that is kind to its users and the environment. A Third Generation floodlit, synthetic general purpose pitch, grass gaelic pitches, all weather hockey pitches and a running track with changing facilities were also provided, extending the important links with the wider community. In September 2008, the Holy Cross Collage was voted the “Favourite Building in the North West” by public vote.
