The new Donaghadee Community and Leisure Centre built on a brownfield site, within the Donaghadee Conservation Area, provides a large multi-purpose hall for community events, a minor hall/gymnasium, catering facilities, changing accommodation, offices, a first aid room and 3 meeting rooms in a flexible arrangement.
RPP’s main design challenge was to create a building that appears outwardly small in scale to integrate with the surrounding urban fabric, whilst having enough room inside to house a range of large volume spaces. The challenge was met by locating the large hall centrally and arranging visually smaller-scale spaces around it.
RPP also provided car parking and landscaping for the project.
