Campbell College Junior School

RPP was appointed to provide full architectural services for a new Junior School within the grounds of Campbell College to cater for growing student numbers. The College wanted to provide a unique learning environment to stimulate students and staff and compliment the Junior School’s existing facilities.

The new school accommodates years 5 to 7 in six new classrooms. There is a dedicated art room, small library and book store, changing rooms, staff facilities, IT suite and a multi-purpose sports hall. Each classroom has its own dedicated storage, cloakroom and toilets, and incorporates the latest IT technology.

Thermal efficiency has been maximised in the building through the use of air leakage resistant construction techniques. The school is heated via high efficiency gas boilers and an underfloor heating system, ensuring the comfort of students all year round.

Maximising natural daylight was a key consideration in the school’s design. Classrooms are larger than the norm with large glazed windows taking full advantage of the views. Sun tubes and roof lights ensure natural light penetrates all areas within the building. External solar shading is also provided to minimise solar gain.
